“Returnee Testimonies” are an important part of our website resources. Our prayer is that God will use these real stories to help returnee Christians continue following Jesus as they return. A year ago, we collected six previously published testimonies into a digital booklet titled, “Stories of Those Who Return Home.” They are available for our readers to download: https://www.thrivingturtles.org/resource/returnee-testimony-book/
We continue to publish new stories from Christians who have returned to China. In this newsletter, we recommend two recently published testimonies, hoping they bring you both encouragement and fuel for reflection.
1. “Finding Belonging in Transition: A Returnee’s Reflection” (Author: Xiao Xu)
Xiao Xu is a Gen-Z returnee and workplace newcomer, searching for a sense of belonging amidst frequent moves and career changes. Faced with the exhaustion of drifting and the pressures of work, she felt deep loneliness and confusion. However, through the acceptance of fellow Christians in her church and the guidance of God’s Word, she realized that true belonging is not found in a geographical location, but in our relationship with God:
“When I adopt this sojourner’s perspective, when I acknowledge my that heavenly home is my anchor point, I am better able to accept the feeling of being in transition on earth, and this brings me hope and comfort.”

“2 “From Medicine to Education: My Winding Road Back to China” (Author: Zhuzhang Caoxie)
Zhu Zhang made the “unconventional” decision to give up a career in pharmaceutical management abroad to return home and commit to Christian education. She shares her psychological challenges, facing the divide between reality and her ideals, leading to deep reflection on her professional calling. She lives out her faith by sowing gospel seeds and pursuing eternal value in the field of education. She is deeply grateful for God’s leading:
“I feel lonely and struggle day by day, always wanting to escape back abroad. And I lament that it is so hard to find a husband. Yet, whenever I recall the bits and pieces of my experience, and the unexpected grace God has given me in every difficulty, I have no regrets—only boundless gratitude remains!”
